Tall Amphora - Golden Brass
Tall Amphora - Golden Brass
Tall Amphora.
I made this amphora vessel by sculpting a solid vase form from a block of hard jewellers wax. I then sawed it in half and carefully hollowed it out with a warmed blade. Once it was hollowed, I melted the wax edges and sealed the two halves back together to create one whole vessel.
It has been a labour of love to create this piece with the process of lost wax casting. Every amphora is made unique, as I work directly onto the moulded wax before sending it back to the casting house to be turned into metal.

About:
The amphora is an ancient vessel with two handles which emerged during the Neolithic period; they were produced profusely in the Classical period. Amphorae were used to transport and store luxuries such as oil and wine: in clay amphorae vessels wine could be sealed tight and turned into a great vintage – something we couldn’t do again ‘til glass bottles were invented in the early modern period. This necked amphora was designed for easy pouring of the good stuff…
Care:
Brass will naturally oxidise and darken . To keep her shiny and bright, polish with the polishing cloth included in your order.
