This special Ex Voto ring is studded with a reclaimed cubic zirconia, which is a synthetic lab-grown stone. I set these into the wax ring sculptures and then it’s cast into place - embedded into the flames atop the heart.
The Ex Voto ring combines the symbolic Ex Voto of the Medieval world, with the early modern Irish tradition of the Claddagh ring. This ring represents love, loyalty and fierce friendship.

Hand sculpted from wax and cast into raw golden brass, Fairmined gold plated brass, or recycled 925 sterling silver.

Fairmined gold plating can take an additional 3-4 weeks as this is sent to another workshop.
The Ex Voto of the flaming heart symbolises devotion, love, and gratitude. In Christian tradition, Ex Votos were given as offerings to the saints or the divine, and this particular symbol appears across centuries of religious art. Then, the Claddagh, which is thought to have appeared in the 17th century, appears with two hands which clasp onto a crowned love heart. The Claddagh is usually symbolic of love, loyalty, and friendship, as the hands are representative of friendship, and the heart is the love.
This Ex Voto ring therefore represents so much love, in its different varying forms. What a beautiful gift to give to yourself, or to somebody that you hold dear. I also like to think of this piece representing the saying “have heart”, whereby it acts as a reminder to, especially in these times, keep hope, be brave, and keep strong.
Handmade:
This chunky ring can be worn as a pinky ring, or a statement signet ring for any finger. I made it as a pinky, yet I know that if I wear too chunky a knit with this, it may well snag or catch. This piece is made in the UK using the ancient art of lost wax casting. Each ring will be ever so slightly unique as they’re expertly cast in the UK from responsibly sourced materials, and then finished by hand.
Please be 100% sure of your size as these rings are made to order in wax. Resizing isn’t always possible, however if it is possible, there will be a £50 resizing fee. Please note that resizing may affect the stone as the high heat of soldering post-production can cause gems to discolour or even break.
Care:
Brass will naturally oxidise and darken over time. To keep it shiny and bright, polish with the polishing cloth included in your order, and swot up on the care card included, as it contains tips and tricks for care, and general wear.
